Cesarean section deliveries is a count of live babies delivered by cesarean section (C-section). It may be expressed as a percentage of births.Cesarean section delivery is the use of surgery to deliver babies. A cesarean section is often necessary when a vaginal delivery puts the mother at risk. This may include obstructed labor, twin pregnancy, high blood pressure in the mother, breech birth, or problems with the placenta or umbilical cord.
In 2021, in Alachua County, the percent of total births that were Cesarean Section Deliveries (All) was 31.4 compared to Florida at 35.7. Since the oldest age of the mother at birth varies, an ending age of 999 is used to retrieve all records up to and including the oldest age.
Alachua County is in the first quartile for this measure. This means that relative to other counties in Florida, the situation occurs more often in about three quarters of the counties. The map illustrates county data by quartile. It is shown when there are at least 51 counties with data for this measure.
