Low birthweight is defined as birthweight less than 2500 grams (5.5 pounds).

Birthweight is one of the strongest predictors of an infant's health and survival.

In 2021, in Alachua County, the percent of total births that were Live Births Under 2500 Grams (Low Birth Weight) (All) was 10.3 compared to Florida at 9.0. Since the oldest age of the mother at birth varies, an ending age of 999 is used to retrieve all records up to and including the oldest age.
